King Cake Monkey Bread

A traditional monkey bread recipe, but Mardi Gras edition. I love Mardi Gras and I'm not sure why!? My mom always celebrated pretty much every holiday and this was just a fun one for us. Every year on Fat Tuesday she makes us jambalaya and homemade king cake. She decorates the table with beads and masks and we wear them during dinner! This year I can't make it to her place and I wasn't up for making the traditional king cake, so I came up with this as another way to celebrate!

Traditional king cake is a sweet bread with cinnamon rolled into a wreath shape and topped with icing and Mardi Gras colored sprinkles. King cakes have a little plastic baby Jesus somewhere in them and whoever gets the slice with the baby is supposed to have good luck for the rest of the year!

I wanted to do something easy but still festive, so I took store bought cinnamon rolls and made them into a pull a part bread, then decorated them with the icing and sprinkles. So, if you're like me and love to celebrate all the holidays here's a simple way to do Mardi Gras! So easy it's not even really a recipe. I hope you guys like this one and good luck getting the lucky baby!!

What you need:

1 can of store bought cinnamon rolls

4 tablespoons of butter, melted

Some icing (can be the one that came with the rolls) and sprinkles

A plastic baby Jesus!

How to do it:

Preheat your oven to 350. Cut up the cinnamon rolls into small pieces, toss them in the melted butter and layer on top of each other in a loaf pan that has been sprayed with non stick spray. After 30-35 minutes in the oven remove and stick the baby somewhere in there. Drizzle with icing and green, purple and yellow sprinkles.

Tip: if you can't find colored sprinkles, just buy white and dye them with a little food dye.
