If chocolate cake and banana bread had a baby.. it would be this double chocolate banana bread. A super moist banana bread gets taken up a notch with double the chocolate. So I'm not kidding when I say me and my boyfriend ate this ENITRE thing in like 6 hours.  I had tons of bananas that were getting really ripe, so I pulled out my Joanna Gaines cookbook for her banana bread recipe. I decided to add cocoa powder and chocolate chips and see what happens. I think the best thing about this bread is that it remains so moist and you can still really taste the banana. Sometimes just taking out flour and adding cocoa can make things dry and there can be an overwhelming chocolate flavor. This recipe is great because it is a banana bread with subtle chocolate flavor.

What you need:

  • ripe bananas. the riper the better.

  • cocoa powder

  • flour

  • butter

  • brown sugar

  • eggs

  • vanilla

  • chocolate chips

  • baking soda

What to do:

Banana bread is easy! Just mash those bananas up then mix together with the wet ingredients. Whisk together your dry ingredients. Combine the wet and dry and then mix in your toppings. Wait for it to bake!

What is a wet/dry ingredient?

I reference to ingredients as wet and dry a lot when baking and so do other recipes. A wet ingredient is anything that has moisture to it like eggs, vanilla, oils and even sugars are included. Dry ingredients are always going to be your flours and baking powder/soda and in this case cocoa powder. You want to mix wet and dry separately and then add them together.

Tips

  1. Leave the bananas a little chunky! I love the texture they add and you can actually see the bananas when you cut into it.

  2. Don't over mix the batter. When making quick breads, I always mix until the flour just disappears to prevent over mixing.

  3. Add nuts if you don't have chocolate chips! Chopped walnuts or pecans would be great.

  4. Line the loaf pan with parchment paper. It makes it so easy to pull the bread out of the pan!
